MySTORY
CHAPTER 52
A New Season Begins
November 4, 1973— the day I made my grand entrance into this great big world, born to two sixteen-year-old parents, Marvel Lanette Cleckley and Herman Harold Floyd, who were two kids simply trying to figure life out. God saw this day—November 4, 2025—and every day before it, and every day beyond. As the Bible declares in Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” And again in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
The Turning Point
On April 8, 2021—my mother’s birthday—I received a diagnosis of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS) at age 48. PPMS is a form of MS, affecting only about 10–15% of those diagnosed. Learn more here. It was one year into the pandemic. The world was gripped by fear, loss, and uncertainty. Businesses were struggling to survive, and as a small business owner, I was no exception. COVID was claiming lives, and anxiety was everywhere. In the midst of it all, this diagnosis felt life-shattering—future-shaking and dream-altering. Two years in, I had to walk away from a 30-year career due to mobility challenges that PPMS brought. Three years later, I permanently closed the doors of my salon, Studio DS (Diamond Shearz). I cried out to God daily: “Why, Lord? Make this make sense! This cannot be my life! God where are you? I know You’re there but I need to see You in this! What is next for me?” And every time, He gently reminded me: “I am faithful.” He kept bringing me back to Jeremiah 1:5 and Jeremiah 29:11—scriptures I thought I fully understood, until adversity knocked on my door and I had to stand on His Word for myself. As you mature and you’ve been through some things The Word hits different, it takes on a different meaning—not just words on a page it literally becomes alive!
A Divine Shift
Then God spoke: “What you did was ministry—for that season. I gave you a gift when I created you. The talent of doing hair was placed in your hands, but through that gift, I was preparing your voice for My glory. Yes, I have something greater for you—but it requires trust, stillness, intentionality, listening, and hearing (yes, they are different). I’ve been preparing you for something greater.” So I kept seeking Him. “Lord, how do these scriptures, this diagnosis, the uncertainty, and the fear all tie together? What does all of this mean?” As I sat still, trusting, listening and hearing my perspective began to shift. I started to see Jeremiah 1:5 and Jeremiah 29:11 in a new light. God reminded me again: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” A prophet—one who guides, instructs, and delivers divine messages. And He declared: “I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you… plans to give you hope and a future.”
