“Desperate”
Jamie MacDonald & Lauren Daigle
Focus:
Crying out to God in desperation, trusting Him as our only hope and source of strength
Scripture References (NIV):
• Psalm 34:17 — “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”
• Hebrews 4:16 — “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Devotion:
Desperate reminds us that there are moments when words fail and our prayers become cries from the depths of our soul. In desperation, we discover dependence. God is our only hope, our only source of rescue, and our only answer.
Christmas reminds us that heaven already came down in the form of Jesus, Emmanuel—God with us. When we cry out, we are not alone; He hears, He cares, and He responds. Desperation is not weakness, it is faith that refuses to let go of God. Today, lift your cry to Him, knowing He is faithful to come through.
Reflection:
1. What area of your life feels desperate right now, needing heaven’s help?
2. How can you turn desperation into deeper dependence on God’s presence and promises?
Prayer:
Lord, I cry out to You in desperation. You are my only hope, my strength, and my rescue. Thank You for hearing me, for being near, and for coming through in my time of need. Amen.
Action steps:
1. Write down one desperate prayer and bring it boldly before God today.
2. Say aloud: “Lord, You are my only hope.”
3. Share this devotion and the song “Desperate” with someone who needs encouragement to cry out to God.
Remember:
Desperation is the doorway to dependence, God hears your cry and heaven responds.
