“If I Can’t Say a Word”
Karen Clark Sheard
Focus:
Expressing gratitude and worship even when words fall short
Scripture References (NIV):
• Psalm 150:6 — ““Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”
• Romans 11:33 — “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!”
Devotion:
Karen Clark Sheard’s If I Can’t Say a Word reminds us that sometimes God’s goodness is so overwhelming that words cannot capture it. In those moments, even a lifted hand or a tear becomes worship. Praise is not limited to eloquence—it is the overflow of a grateful heart.
God has been “just that good.” His blessings, His mercy, and His faithfulness often leave us speechless. When words fail, gestures of worship still declare His greatness. Today, let your praise rise beyond words—wave your hand, lift your heart, and let your life testify that He’s been just that good.
Reflection:
1. When has God’s goodness left you speechless?
2. How can you express worship beyond words in your daily life?
Prayer:
Lord, You’ve been just that good. Even when I can’t find the words, I will lift my hands and worship You. Thank You for overwhelming me with Your love and faithfulness. Amen.
Action steps:
1. Take a moment today to worship God without words—lift your hands, bow, or simply reflect.
2. Say aloud: “God has been just that good.”
3. Share this devotion and the song “If I Can’t Say a Word” with someone who needs encouragement to worship beyond words.
Remember:
When words fail, worship still speaks. God has been just that good.
