Return to Your First Love

2/16/26, 1:00 PM

Inspired by:
“First Love”
Kirk Franklin

Focus:
Hearing God’s call to return, to be still, and to listen for His healing and direction

Scripture References (NIV):
• Revelation 2:4–5 — “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen. Repent and do the things you did at first.”

• Psalm 46:10 — “He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God…’”

Devotion:
First Love is a gentle yet powerful reminder that God continually calls us back to the place where our relationship with Him began. “Come back to your first love, come back home where you belong” is not a rebuke, but an invitation. It is the voice of a loving Father drawing His children back into closeness, back into intimacy, and back into the safety of His presence. Life has a way of pulling our attention in many directions, but God’s love remains steady, waiting for us to return with open hearts.

The song also reminds us that God is able to heal if we listen. Healing is not always loud. Sometimes it comes in the quiet moments when we slow down long enough to hear His voice. He desires to show us His will, to guide our steps, and to restore what has been worn down by life. But this requires stillness. It requires a heart that is willing to pause, breathe, and listen. When we become still, we make room for God to speak, to correct, to comfort, and to lead.

Returning to our first love is not about going backward. It is about reconnecting with the passion, purity, and devotion that once burned in our hearts. It is about remembering why we fell in love with God in the first place. When we return, we find healing. When we return, we find clarity. When we return, we find home. Today, hear His voice calling you back to the place where you belong—back to your first love.

Reflection:
1. What is God inviting you to lay aside so you can return to your first love
2. How can you create space today to be still and listen for His voice

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for calling me back to my first love. Thank You for inviting me into stillness so that I can hear Your voice clearly. Heal my heart, restore my focus, and draw me closer to You. Help me to listen, to obey, and to walk in Your will. Amen.

Action Steps:
1. Speak this aloud today: “I am returning to my first love.”
2. Set aside five minutes of stillness to listen for God’s voice.
3. Share this devotion and the message of First Love with someone.

Remember:
Healing, clarity, and direction come when you return to your first love and listen.
